Salem Poor distinguished himself at the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775. His exceptional bravery and skill on the battlefield were recognized by fourteen officers who petitioned the Massachusetts government, praising his valor, but the Congress refuse to recognize the petition because of his race. He continued his service in pivotal campaigns, including Saratoga and Valley Forge, showcasing unwavering dedication to the cause of American independence.
