The lasting joy of purpose
Discover the inspiring story of Ms. D, a testament to living a long, fulfilling life through passion and dedication. Her journey reminds us that finding joy in what you do is truly a gift.

A journey in every strand
When I was in the 8th grade, I started going to the beauty shop. The lead beautician was a lady named Ms. D. She would do my hair on Friday evenings after school. This was in the days before braids, hair extensions, and flat irons. Ms. D used a "straightening comb" and those of us who have hair that grows up toward the sun understand how this "device" works.

Timeless dedication
The other day I spoke with my aunt who told me that Ms. D no longer drives, but she is 87 and still works doing hair. By the way, she has a sister that is 92. When I heard this, my heart felt joyful and grateful that she is blessed and still able to do what she loves. Her story is a beautiful example of longevity and finding your life's passion.

Wisdom and long life
Ms. D's continued passion for her work reminds me of the scripture, Proverbs 3:16-18: "She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly." This passage beautifully encapsulates the blessings that come from embracing one's purpose with joy.
